The Family Nurse Practitioner program at Carson-Newman University is nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing and is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. It is designed to prepare students for licensure requirements in the state of Tennessee.
Completing the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Carson-Newman and passing the national certification exam for family nurse practitioners may lead to licensure in other states, but is its best to consult state licensing boards to determine requirements in specific states. It is recommended that a student who completes the Family Nurse Practitioner program who wishes to seek licensure outside of the state of Tennessee, research requirements for licensure in that state and contact the appropriate licensing agency (see contact information in disclosure table). Students must be aware that state laws, regulations, and requirements for licensure and certification vary from state to state and may change without notice.
Carson-Newman strongly recommends that prospective and currently enrolled students who plan to seek licensure or certification in nursing outside the state of Tennessee contact the appropriate licensing agency for information and guidance before enrolling in the program. It is also imperative that students be cognizant of licensing requirements when they relocate to a state outside the state of Tennessee after beginning the program. Students should also discuss licensing requirements with their advisor before enrolling in the nursing program or when relocating to a state outside of Tennessee.
